In certain countries, particularly Middle Eastern ones, rape is considered permissible and "part of the culture".[1]. ISIS is particularly known for its rape culture, which according to the New York Times is enshrined within its theology [2].

In Afghanistan, rape is legal under certain circumstances [3]. If a woman in Afghanistan becomes pregnant, she may be be forced to marry her rapist [4]. Marines and soldiers stationed in Afghanistan were told not to intervene in rapes because it's "part of the culture."[5].

Rape culture is also prevalent among men incarcerated in the United States. Human Rights Watch estimated that at least 140,000 inmates had been raped while incarcerated[6]. A United States Department of Justice report, Sexual Victimization in Prisons and Jails Reported by Inmates, states that "In 2011-12, an estimated 4.0% of state and federal prison inmates and 3.2% of jail inmates reported experiencing one or more incidents of sexual victimization by another inmate or facility staff in the past 12 months or since admission to the facility, if less than 12 months."[7].
